UM Avaya IX Workplace FAQs

 

Will Avaya IX Workplace function off-campus?

Yes, but there are a few requirements.

1. You must have the Avaya IX Workplace software installed on a home computer/laptop or mobile device, whether it is university or personally owned.

2. You must have an olemiss.edu email address.

3. You must have sufficient bandwidth on your home broadband Internet connection. (we recommend speeds of 2 Mbps or higher and ping times less than 100ms).

Does Avaya IX Workplace function the same on-campus as it does off-campus?

Yes.

Must I dial a 9 first to call an off-campus phone number?

No, unlike when making a call from your campus desk phone, you do not have to dial a 9 before dialing the phone number.

Do I need to log into my computer to receive a call?

When using Avaya IX Workplace on a computer, if you are logged off and someone calls your phone number, you will not hear the app ring and you will not be able to answer the call. Although, when you log back into your computer, you will be able to see a missed call in the call history of the app.

How do I turn off Avaya IX Workplace during non-business hours or when I want to stop using the app?

Sign out of the IX Workplace app itself. You can do this by clicking the round profile icon at the top of the IX Workplace app and then clicking Sign Out. Then close the app.

I have minimized my softphone application, where did it go?

On Windows workstations, the application minimizes to your Taskbar or to the Task Tray. Locate the red and white Avaya IX Workplace icon and click to restore it.

Are my long-distance calls free when using the softphone application?

No, all your calls still use the same PBX infrastructure and call routing as your desk phone. You will still need to use your long-distance authorization code to make a long-distance call.

Do I need any other hardware other than my computer or mobile device?

If you are using the software on a desktop computer, you will need a set of speakers and an external microphone. Or, you can use a headset or earphones. Be aware that not all headsets and earphones are compatible with the Avaya softphone.

Can I use IX Workplace to call 911?

No, use your local landline phone (or cellular phone service) to call 911, on or off campus.

How many devices can I have the softphone app installed on?

Avaya Workplace can be used on two devices at a time in addition to having an IP desk phone. For example, you can be logged in to Avaya Workplace on your mobile phone and your desktop device at the same time, but if you log in to a third device you will more than likely be logged off of your IP desk phone because it works off of the same phone system setup as your softphone and has been logged in to the longest time.
